Kuzu no Honkai is the perfect guilty pleasure manga. I have never felt so uncomfortable reading a manga but i was sucked in and could not stop reading no matter how unnerved I was. From the first chapter one of the mangas strongest points is its realism. It is just two high schoolers who have an unrequited love which in return makes them feel empty and alone. To fill their void they start doing more and more intimate with each other as a coping mechanism / substitute for the love that they can never achieve. 220https://reeadnarutoshippudenmanga.com/images/ei7aqQKCHuy9evJSeOi61613321040.jpg SPOLER STARTS HERE But the more they go on the more restless they become. They become addicts to this high of intimacy and start doing everything to get it. Because now that they know what its like to have this feeling they cant just go back to living their normal lonesome life in which their only happiness was watching their crush who would never love them back from afar. 220https://reeadnarutoshippudenmanga.com/images/typUkxTM1kSwLz7jOi2p1613321028.jpg But the main characters are not the only people who struggle with loneliness. Every single character has his own problems and coping mechanisms for them. The best friend of the main girl has a crush on her which she knows is onesided but even though she knows the feelings are not mutual she still starts making moves on her when main girl is mentally in the gutter. The two have an affair but they get broken up at what point she cant accept it and does everything she can to make main girl not even like her but just be intimate with her again. SPOILER ENDS HERE By far the best thing Kuzu no Honkai does is not having bad guys. Every single character is just lonely and depressed and does whatever they can to fill their loneliness. No one gets singled out and blamed because everyone is at fault. Their desires slowly take over their entire existence and soon they dont care about anything as long as they can finally distract themselves from their cruel and sad reality. In which they will never have what they desire. It is really easy to relate to many of the characters and feel with them This feeling of uneasiness I got while reading is not just the dark themes which are prominent but that i sympathized with the themes and projected myself onto some characters. CONCLUSION Kuzu no Honkai is a brilliant and realistic depiction of the loneliness inside of people and what it can do not only to them but to everyone around them. It shows so good just the decend of the characters who slowly lose themselves in their coping mechanisms and how they affect them.
